Crosswalking CY 2014 lower GI/endoscopy codes to 2015 HCPCs G-codes: 10 things to know

CMS has created G-codes for 10 lower GI/endoscopy procedures in an effort to allow providers to report Medicare procedures in CY 2015 as they did in CY 2014. CMS requires the G-codes be reported for procedures with new CPT code assignments in 2015, rather than the corresponding 2015 CPT codes.

Here are the 10 temporary G-codes, according to the 2015 CPT Coding Updates report from the three sister GI societies.    

•    CY 2014 CPT code: 44383
•    CY 2015 HCPCS code: G6018
•    Description: Ileoscopy, through stoma with transendoscopic stent placement (including predilation)

•    CY 2 014 CPT code: 44393
•    CY 2015 HCPCS code: G6019
•    Description: Colonoscopy through stoma with ablation of tumor(s), polyp(s) or lesion(s) without removal by hot biopsy forceps, bipolar cautery or snare

•    CY 2014 CPT code: 44397
•    CY 2015 HCPCS code: G6020
•    Description: Colonoscopy through stoma with transendoscopic stent placement (including predilation)

•    CY 2014 CPT code: 44799
•    CY 2015 HCPCS code: G6021
•    Description: Unlisted procedure, intestine

•    CY 2014 CPT code: 45339
•    CY 2015 HCPCS code: G6022
•    Description: Flexible sigmoidoscopy with ablation of with ablation of tumor(s), polyp(s) or lesion(s) without removal by hot biopsy forceps, bipolar cautery or snare

•    CY 2014 CPT code: 45345
•    CY 2015 HCPCS code: G6023
•    Description: Flexible sigmoidoscopy with transendoscopic stent placement (including predilation)

•    CY 2014 CPT code: 45383
•    CY 2015 HCPCS code: G6024

•    Description: High resolution anoscopy with magnification and chemical agent enhancement; diagnostic collection of specimen(s) by brushing or washing

•    Description: High resolution anoscopy with magnification and chemical enhancement with biopsy(ies)
