Pediatric gastroenterologist accused of sexually assaulting patients — 4 insights

Summit, N.J.-based pediatric gastroenterologist Michael Tyshkov, MD, was formally indicted on six counts of sexual assault-related offenses by a Union County, N.J.-based grand jury, Tap Into Westfield reports.

What you should know:

1. Dr. Tyshkov was charged with two counts of second-degree sexual assault, one count of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child and three counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact.

2. Dr. Tyshkov allegedly inappropriately touched underage patients. In one instance, Dr. Tyshkov assaulted a now-20-year-old patient on multiple occasions between April 2016 to March 2019.

3. Police filed charges on behalf of two additional victims, who were 16 and 19 at the time of the crimes in 2017.

4. Police believe there may be additional victims as well.

5. Dr. Tyshkov’s crimes could lead to a significant criminal sentence.
