GI physician leader to know: Dr. Ramnik Joseph Xavier of Massachusetts General Hospital

Ramnik Joseph Xavier, MD, PhD, is chief of the gastrointestinal unit and director of the Center for the Study of Inflammatory Bowel Disease at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston as well as the Kurt Isselbacher Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School in Boston.

Dr. Xavier is a member of the American Association of Physicians; a senior associate member of the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard; and principal investigator at the Center for Computational and Integrative Biology of Mass General.

Dr. Xavier has a professional interest in ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, celiac disease, hepatitis, gastrointestinal cancer and autoimmune disorders of the GI tract. He is board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology. He has had his work published in professional journals, such as Nature.

 Dr. Xavier completed his medical degree at the University of Zimbabwe School of Medicine and his residency and fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
