Dr. Shaheen’s clinical interests include Barrett’s esophagus, esophageal cancer, gastroesophageal reflux disease, eosinophilic esophagitis and esophageal motility disorders. He also actively pursues research activities and has received funding from the National Institutes of Health. He serves as a senior associate editor for the American Journal of Gastroenterology and as a reviewer for numerous journals. He has won a number of awards over the course of his career, including AGA Institute Master’s Award in gastroenterology research.
Dr. Shaheen earned his medical degree at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, where he also completed his residency. He completed his fellowship at UNC, where he also earned his Master’s degree at the school of public health. In addition, he has completed a National Institutes of Health fellowship in epidemiology.
