Dr. Achkar’s clinical interests include inflammatory bowel disease including ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease.He has won a number of awards for his work, including the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America’s Premier Physician Award and the American College of Gastroenterology’s Governors Award for Best Scientific Paper. He has served as the principal or co-principal investigator in several research trials, and he has been the recipient of research awards from the National Institutes of Health, Cleveland Clinic, GlaxoSmithKline Institute for Digestive Health and American College of Gastroenterology.
Dr. Achkar earned his medical degree at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland and completed his residency at University Hospitals of Cleveland. He completed his GI and hepatology fellowship at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
