The panels, which are subsets of the FDA’s Medical Device Advisory Committee, will discuss the safety and benefits of the screenings, as well as its role for asymptomatic patients.
CT colonographies have long been a contested method for colon cancer screening. In 2008, the U.S. Preventative Services Task Force deemed the evidence insufficient to support the screenings while several medical groups called them a good method for testing. CMS has declined to reimburse for “virtual colonoscopies.”
