AGA releases obesity guidelines: 3 key notes

The American Gastroenterology Association released obesity guidelines to put gastroenterologists front and center for multidisciplinary care teams on Feb. 27, 2017.

Here’s what you should know.

1. The AGA believes gastroenterologists are in a unique position to lead obesity treatment teams.

2. The association’s POWER program takes a circular approach to obesity care instead of a linear one; recognizing obesity treatment requires constant care.

3. The program’s first step begins with a patient assessment leading into intense weight loss intervention, weight loss maintenance and then weight gain prevention.
