AGA publishes ulcerative colitis guideline — 3 insights

American Gastroenterological Association-affiliated researchers published a new clinical guideline on ulcerative colitis with 15 recommendations for treating the disease.

What you should know:

1. The guideline, published in Gastroenterology, navigates the increased number of therapies available for the long-term management of moderate to severe ulcerative colitis.

2. The guideline focuses on immunomodulators, biologics and small molecules that lead to remission and decrease colectomy risk.

3. There is no cure for UC, but quality of life increases when the disease is in remission.
