1. When the survey took place in early 2012, only 2 percent of gastroenterologists reported participating in ACOs.

2. However, 9 percent of those who said they were not in an ACO planned to join one in the coming year.

3. 36 percent of gastroenterologists thought ACOs would case a large income decline.

4. Another 25 percent of gastroenterologists thought ACOs would bring a slight income decline.

5. Only 8 percent of gastroenterologists thought ACOs would have little or no effect on their income.

6. Around 31 percent thought it was too soon to tell how ACOs would impact gastroenterologist income.

7. Nearly half, 48 percent, of gastroenterologist thought quality measures and treatment guidelines would have a negative impact on patient care.

8. Another 30 percent of gastroenterologist thought quality measures and treatment guidelines will have no impact on quality of patient care.

9. Only 22 percent of gastroenterologists think quality measures and treatment guidelines will improve patient care.

10. As an alternative to traditional payment methods, 1 percent of gastroenterologists were in a concierge practice when the survey took place.

11. Another 1 percent reported practicing on a cash-only basis.
