Lebanon, Ind.-based Witham Health Services has confirmed that cardiologist Edward Harlamert, MD, is no longer employed at its Lebanon medical center following multiple malpractice allegations, according to an Aug. 28 WTHR report.

A July 10 letter to patients stated that Dr. Harlamert “is no longer practicing at Witham Health Services.” The separation coincides with certain legal setbacks, including a unanimous finding by a state medical review panel in January that Dr. Harlamert failed to meet the standard of care, and a July ruling by Boone County Superior Court Judge Matthew Kincaid upholding the malpractice finding, according to the report.

Carlota Lawton, a patient who sought care for a migraine in 2020, claimed Dr. Harlamert unnecessarily implanted a stent, leading to complications that left her bedridden. She is one of 11 patients who have filed complaints since 2015. Two panels have found malpractice, four ruled in Dr. Harlamert’s favor, and five cases remain pending.

Dr. Harlamert has also been accused of implanting dozens of stents in a retired hospital worker, including 41 in a seven-year span. He has denied wrongdoing, citing patient-specific decisions.

Dr. Harlamert recently launched Harlamert Heart & Vascular and is accepting new patients in central Indiana. His medical license remains active.
