North Carolina’s Novant Health to Transfer Surgery Center Ownership to New Hanover Regional Medical Center

Brunswick Novant in Bolivia, N.C., is in talks with New Hanover Regional Medical Center to sell an outpatient surgery center that the health system started building in 2010, according to a Greater Wilmington Business Journal report.

Novant stopped building the surgery center in 2010 because of financial issues stemming from the recession. Only an outer shell for the facility, intended to hold two operating rooms, was constructed.

In July, state regulators gave local health providers permission for New Hanover Regional to acquire Novant’s interests in the project. Novant is apparently pulling away from plans to enter the New Hanover market. According to the report, a new CON would not have to be issued to transfer the interest to New Hanover Regional.
