The project aims to improve outpatient surgery, radiology and rehabilitation services at the hospital. The hospital is made up of three wings that were originally designed just for inpatient services, but the hospital’s patient base has changed to include 70 percent outpatients.
The renovation project will consolidate services and update amenities with an increased focus on outpatient services. “That’s a shift that’s occurring nationwide,” said William van Slyke, spokesman for the Healthcare Association of New York State. “More and more services are delivered outpatient. And there are fewer inpatient stays. The demand for inpatient beds across the state and the nation is diminishing.”
