Brewer, Maine-based Northern Light Health has announced plans to close its walk-in clinic in Waterville, Maine, by the end of 2025.

Here are four things to know:

1. The closure will affect about 30 full- and part-time staff members. Northern Light is working with those employees to determine next steps. The clinic is managed by Northern Light Mercy Hospital in Portland, a spokesperson confirmed to Becker’s.

2. AWhen Northern Light Inland Hospital in Waterville shut down in late May, the walk-in clinic remained open to maintain access to care. Since then, patient volumes have declined as residents shifted to other providers.

3. “A Northern Light care team will be available to assist area patients with medication  management, primary care connections, and other follow-up needs as the clinic winds down operations,” the release said. “Northern Light Health is committed to supporting its employees affected by this  transition, offering severance packages, career guidance and opportunities to continue  working within the Northern Light system.”

4. Northern Light’s decision comes amid a wave of similar closures. At least three other hospitals, health systems, and medical groups have announced plans to shutter clinics within the last three months.
