Illinois health board issues findings on Quincy Medical Group's proposed ASC — 4 insights

The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board issued its findings on Quincy (Ill.) Medical Group's $19.5 million proposed surgery center failing it in four areas, local ABC, CBS affiliate KHQA reports.

What you should know:

1. The review board said the surgery center was an unnecessary duplication of facilities, did not improve access to care, did not conform with viable and reasonable standards

2. The review board will issue its final decision March 5. Although the board did issue several negative opinions, that hasn't stopped it from approving a facility in the past. QMG CEO Carol Brockmiller said two recent projects received approval after the board found negative issues.

3. Ms. Brockmiller viewed the report favorably. She said, "We are confident in our ability to satisfactorily address any outstanding questions, and we look forward to the opportunity to discuss the surgery center and its many benefits to the Quincy community at the upcoming board meeting."

4. Quincy-based Blessing Health System released a statement emphasizing the finding that the surgery center unnecessarily duplicated facilities saying, QMG should "pause to reconsider its CON application and to instead pursue better alternatives to serving the healthcare needs."
