HCA Surgery Ventures expands ASC footprint, raises outlook in 2025

Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare’s Surgery Ventures division continues to expand its ASC network and push more procedures into outpatient settings in 2025.

Here are 10 things to know so far this year:

  1. In the first quarter of 2025, outpatient revenue made up 37.3% of HCA’s total patient revenue, up from 36.9% in the same period in 2024. 
  1. HCA operated 125 freestanding outpatient surgery centers in Q1 2025, compared to 121 in Q1 2024. 
  1. Same-facility outpatient surgeries declined 2.1% in Q1 2025, while inpatient surgeries rose 0.2%. 
  1. In Q2 2025, HCA reported 124 freestanding outpatient surgery centers, up from 123 in Q2 2024. 
  1. Outpatient services accounted for 38.4% of total patient revenue in Q2 2025, compared with 38.1% a year earlier.
  1. Same-facility outpatient surgeries fell 0.6% year over year in Q2 2025, while inpatient surgeries dipped 0.3%. 
  1. HCA reported $1.7 billion in net income in Q2 2025, representing an 8.9% margin. 
  1. The system raised its full-year 2025 revenue outlook to between $74 billion and $76 billion, with net income guidance of $6.11 billion to $6.48 billion. 
  1. HCA Surgery Ventures was listed among the ASC industry’s largest players in 2025, with 124 ASCs and more than 3,400 physician partners.

10. In September 2025, HCA named Shaun Cartwright as COO of Surgery Ventures, overseeing operations across its ASC network.
