Alabama hospital breaks ground on ASC, emergency department — 5 insights

Auburn-based East Alabama Medical Center broke ground on a freestanding ASC and emergency department to meet the needs of Auburn’s growing population, The Auburn Village reports.

What you should know:

1. Administrators expect the facility to open in December 2020.

2. The ASC will have four operating rooms and will employ 17 physicians.

3. The physicians will provide orthopedics, ENT, ophthalmology, plastic surgery and endoscopy services.

4. The emergency department will operate as a level 3 trauma center.

5. Auburn University invested $11 million into the project through a partnership with the medical center.
