Sacramento-based Sutter Health will close its Sutter Amador Surgery Center in Jackson, Calif., on Oct. 3, according to a statement shared with Becker’s.
Here are five things to know:
1. The center, which provides non-emergency procedures such as endoscopies, cataract surgeries and pain management injections, will be transitioned to Sutter Amador Hospital.
2. In an open letter to the community, Sutter Amador Hospital CEO Michael Cureton, Sutter Amador Surgery Center Ambulatory Services Administrator Branden Nelson, and the center’s Executive of Operations Johnny Russell said the move will allow the organization to “align resources with areas of growing need” and that they are working with physicians to create a “more seamless and efficient process for patient care.”
3. In the statement, Sutter officials noted recent investments in expanding primary and specialty care in Amador County, including adding family medicine and pediatric physicians, recruiting internal medicine and orthopedic specialists, and exploring new services in podiatry and gastroenterology. The hospital has also grown through partnerships, opening an outpatient dialysis center in 2024 in collaboration with Innovative Renal Care and adding inpatient dialysis services this spring.
4. A Sutter spokesperson said the health system is working closely with affected staff to provide support during the transition.
“Sutter Health is committed to delivering high-quality, local care to the Amador community,” the spokesperson said. “As healthcare needs evolve, we are making thoughtful investments in services and partnerships to support the community’s long-term health.
5. Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health’s ASC portfolio is overall expanding, with plans to grow from 36 ASCs today to nearly double that number by 2030, Sarah Sterling, executive of operations for Sutter Health’s Surgery Center division, told Becker’s.
