Here are five trends changing healthcare:

1. HIPAA-compliance. HIPAA compliance is becoming increasingly important as data breaches threaten patient privacy. In the last two years, data breaches have cost the healthcare industry nearly $6.2 billion. To help organizations with HIPAA-compliance, the Federal Trade Commission and other organizations have created tools to let providers check if they are compliant.

1. Web designs’ responsiveness. In 2015, 72 percent of U.S. internet users obtained health-related information online. Healthcare organizations are moving to make information accessible online to keep pace with technological advancements. As more patients use mobile devices, organizations will continue to use Responsive Web Design, which adapts to different phones for easy navigation.

3. Telemedicine. Similarly, telemedicine is changing the way healthcare delivers care. A prime example is The ACT, which is a monitor a patient receives via the mail that monitors their heart automatically. The device transmits the information to a center, allowing providers to obtain updates if the device detects unusual patterns. Additionally, the lack of rural providers is fueling demand for telehealth services.

4. Social media. Healthcare industry has lagged behind many other major industries in social media use. However, more healthcare organizations are grasping social media’s importance and how they can use it to drive patients to their centers. Thirty-one percent of healthcare professionals use social media for networking. Physicians and organizations can utilize social media to reach millennials.

5. Wearables. Wearable technology offers providers a tremendous amount of health information. The next piece of the puzzle is figuring out how to filter the important information from the useless information to drive optimal patient outcomes.
