2014 US physician workforce census released: 5 things to know

The "Census of Actively Licensed Physicians in the Untied States, 2014" has been released by the Journal of Medical Regulation, according to News Medical.

Here are five things to know:

1. The census offers physician licensure data gathered from state medical boards.

2. The population of licensed physicians saw an increase of 4 percent since 2012, at 916,264.

3. Nationally, the average physician is older and male, but there are an increasing number of females entering the profession.

4. Annually, more physicians joined the profession than left between 2012 and 2014.

5. More physicians are attending international medical schools.
