When coding takes priority — 4 takeaways

A recent survey of 200 physicians found 86 percent of physicians claim ICD-10 implementation is taking away from patient care, according to RevCycle Intelligence.

2. Physicians are experiencing a wealth of technical issues. One physician could not complete the necessary coding because the online referral system would reject the ICD-10 codes.

3. The majority of physicians find paperwork and charge entry consume a large majority of their time. One physician said, "I used to enter my own charges. I quit on October 1st and now my biller is doing it. I used to bill every day and we are now three days behind."

4. Four state Medicaid agencies in California, Louisiana, Maryland and Montana stated last month they were not adequately prepare for the ICD-10 implementation.
