Anesthesiologists rank No. 1 for highest salary in 2018

Out of 804 occupations tracked, anesthesiologists had the highest average salary in 2018, according to Quartz.

Quartz's report was based on 2018 data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics' Occupational Employment Statistics survey, which is conducted every other year.

The highest-paying jobs in 2018:

1. Anesthesiologists: $267,020
2. General surgeons: $255,110
3. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons: $242,370
4. OB-GYNs: $238,320
5. Orthodontists: $225,760
6. Psychiatrists: $220,380
7. Family and general practitioners: $211,780
8. Physicians and surgeons (other specialists): $203,880
9. Chief executives: $200,140
10. General internists: $196,490
