Here are six anesthesiologists Becker’s has reported on in the last month:

1. Gabor Racz, MD, a Hungarian-born anesthesiologist, died at 88 in Dallas on June 23. Dr. Racz fled his home country as a young medical student during the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and became a “pioneer” in pain medicine, co-founding the World Institute of Pain. He was chairman emeritus of anesthesiology at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock.

2. Niaz Ahmed, MD, an anesthesiologist at Warren (Pa.) General Hospital, is set to retire. Dr. Ahmed has provided anesthesia care at Warren General Hospital for the past 45 years. After finishing his anesthesia residency in Cincinnati, Dr. Ahmed joined Warren General Hospital in 1980.

3. Udaya Padakandla, MD, an anesthesiologist at Baylor Scott & White Health in Dallas and immediate past president of the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists, recently joined Becker’s discuss what he believes is missing from the current conversation around what needs to change in the industry.

4. Mountain Home, Ark.-based Baxter Health has added William Murry, MD, to its medical staff. Dr. Murry is an anesthesiologist and most recently practiced at SurgCenter in Fayetteville, Ark.

5. Madison-based Orthopedic & Spine Centers of Wisconsin added Jake Kraemer, MD. Dr. Kraemer is an anesthesiologist and interventional pain physician specializing in spine, joint and nerve conditions. He will see patients at the practice’s Madison and Watertown, Wis. locations.

6. Sasha Grek, MD, an anesthesiologist, has been charged with felony possession of fentanyl after allegedly extracting it from a patient’s IV line at HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce. Dr. Grek allegedly used a syringe to extract liquid fentanyl from a patient’s IV line while working overnight in the hospital’s ICU in December 2024. Dr. Grek’s actions were allegedly recorded on surveillance footage and on a nurse’s cellphone.
