Dr. Joseph Dempsey to lead Baptist Health anesthesia line across 9 locations

Louisville, Ky.-based Baptist Health tapped Joseph Dempsey, MD, to serve as chairman of its newly formed systemwide anesthesia service line, according to WKDZ, a local radio station.

Four things to know:

1. Dr. Dempsey’s current title is anesthesia medical director for Baptist Health Hospital in Madisonville, Ky., where he began working in 2016. He is also vice chair of the Christian County Board of Health in Hopkinsville, Ky.

2. Baptist Health established the anesthesia system service line to integrate services across its nine surgical locations and 280 anesthesia providers in Kentucky and Indiana.

3. The anesthesia service line committee will identify best practices, set goals and quality metrics, develop clinical policies and procedures, advise on system strategies, and coordinate educational opportunities for clinicians.

4. Before joining Baptist Health, Dr. Dempsey practiced anesthesia at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville for 31 years. He was the hospital’s medical staff president for two tenures.
