Medtronic issues voluntary recall Capnostream monitor battery pack: 4 points

Medtronic has issued a voluntary recall for the battery pack used in its Covidien Oridion labeled Capnostream 20 and Capnostream 20p Patient Monitors, according to an FDA report.

Here are four points:

1. Capnostream monitors are external medical devices used to assess patients’ respiratory status and identify changes in breathing

2. The recall is being conducted due to a battery manufacturing defect that may increase the risk of thermal damage in the battery pack.
 
3. The company also supplied a rework kit with instructions for removal and proper disposal or recycling of the battery pack.

4. The company recommends that customers use the Capnostream monitors on AC power (with the battery pack removed) until a replacement battery pack is available.
