Abbott Acquires OptiMedica, Vistatek to Expand Vision Business Market

 
Abbott has announced it will purchase the ophthalmic device company OptiMedica, based in Silicon Valley, Calif., for $250 million plus up to $150 million after completion of specific development or sales milestones.

Abbott is also acquiring the Brazil-based ophthalmic surgical distributor Vistatek.

With the two acquisitions, the company will be able to expand its vision business into the femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery market.
