Case Western Reserve University Names Dr. Douglas Rhee Chair of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences

Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland have appointed Douglas Rhee, MD, as chair of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences.
Dr. Rhee is a glaucoma specialist, eye surgeon and researcher. He is taking over for cornea specialist Jonathan Lass, MD, who chaired the department for nearly 20 years.

Previously, he worked with Harvard Medical School in Cambridge, Mass., and the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. In addition to treating high risk cases of glaucoma, Dr. Rhee has done extensive research to determine the cellular and molecular causes of the disease. He wants to develop a gene therapy as a viable treatment.
