Southlake, Texas-based Retina Consultants of America has released its first “State of Retina Care” report, examining the pressures facing community-based retina practices and the impact of its physician-led partnership model on patient access and clinical innovation.
The report draws on an anonymous, 19-question survey of retina specialists at RCA-affiliated practices, conducted May 4-18, according to the report. More than 115 physicians, representing about a third of RCA’s network, responded, and nearly 80% said RCA’s support has positively affected their practice, their work as physicians and their ability to care for patients, with the biggest gains reported in research infrastructure, data analytics and supply chain support.
More than 80% of specialists reported an improved ability to participate in clinical research and offer innovative therapies, and 85% said their patients’ access to clinical trials has improved since affiliating with RCA, including 53% who said it improved significantly. Nearly half of respondents said patient access to care overall has improved, which physicians most commonly attributed to expanded clinical trial access, new facilities and satellite clinics, and added appointment capacity; since January 2025, RCA has committed nearly $40 million toward opening 18 new clinics across 13 states, three of which are already open, with affiliated practices reporting monthly patient-capacity gains of 7% to 16%.
