As more cardiovascular procedures move outside of hospital walls, outpatient catheterization labs have gained steam as a strategic priority for cardiology groups, ASCs and hospitals alike.
Here are 12 new cath labs opened, announced or developed so far in 2026, as reported by Becker’s:
1. AdventHealth Murray in Chatsworth, Ga., said May 12 that site preparation for its new campus will begin this summer, with groundbreaking planned later this year and an expected opening in 2028. According to the hospital, the 185,000-square-foot campus will include a 42-bed hospital and medical office building, expanded emergency and surgical services, critical care, advanced imaging and a cardiac catheterization lab
2. Jonesboro, Ark.-based St. Bernards Healthcare opened a new heart and vascular clinic and diagnostics center in Paragould, Ark. on April 2. The expansion marks Northeast Arkansas’ only outpatient interventional cardiac, vascular and electrophysiology catheterization lab.
3. Wilmington, Del.-based ChristianaCare and Newark-based Cardiovascular Physicians of Delaware formed a joint venture to open a new cardiovascular-focused ASC in Newark, Del. The nearly 9,000-square-foot facility will provide services including diagnostic heart catheterizations, coronary and peripheral vascular interventions, ablation procedures and pacemaker/implantable defibrillator implantations
4. Richmond (Va.) Heart and Vascular Associates plans to open a new 27,000-square-foot office in Chesterfield, Va., in July 2027 . The new office will occupy the first floor of a 40,000-square-foot medical building. It will house a 9,000-square-foot cardiac surgery center with two procedure rooms, 15 exam rooms and a 12-bed recovery bay. The facility received certificate of public need approval from the Virginia Department of Health in December, with the cardiac catheterization lab alone expected to cost more than $4 million.
5. Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health received state approval to build a 20-bed hospital and a separate freestanding emergency department in late March. Novant Health also plans to open an ambulatory surgery center in Leland in 2026 and expand services at Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center’s Bolivia campus, including an expanded MRI space and a cardiac catheterization laboratory.
6. Covington, La.-based St. Tammany Health System cut the ribbon on a new outpatient cardiology center. The center includes two cardiac catheterization labs, with capacity to add a third, as well as four echocardiography and vascular ultrasound rooms and two noninvasive cardiology procedure rooms. It also has 15 pre- and post-procedure rooms.
7. Mercy Hospital Washington in Washington, Mo., opened an expanded cardiovascular catheterization lab as part of a $10 million project first announced in January 2024.
8. Tacoma, Wash.-based MultiCare Health System invested more than $15 million in cardiology services across the region through its Pulse Heart Institute. Completed projects include a $5 million hybrid OR and an outpatient cardiology clinic in Olympia. A $10 million renovation of two cardiac catheterization suites is planned for 2026.
9. Rochester (N.Y.) General Hospital opened its newly renovated cardiac catheterization lab in February. The lab underwent a $1.5 million renovation to both modernize its aging infrastructure and end-of-life equipment and create a more efficient and supportive clinical environment
10. Compass Surgical Partners and local physicians opened the Cardiovascular Surgical Institute of Northwest Florida in Panama City. The center includes two catheterization labs equipped with Philips Angio imaging systems. Services include coronary interventions, cardiac device implants, atrial fibrillation ablations, peripheral artery procedures and dialysis access care.
11. Orlando Health St. Cloud (Fla.) Hospital opened an expansion that includes two cardiac catheterization lab procedure rooms and a new 10-bed intensive care unit in January.
12. Erlanger East Hospital in Chattanooga, Tenn., announced plans to undergo a construction project that will add patient beds and specialty services. The hospital plans to add a cardiac catheterization lab, electrophysiology lab and interventional radiology lab as part of the project.
