The Joint Commission supports personal face mask use

The Joint Commission issued a statement March 31 supporting the use of personal face masks or privately owned respirators if facilities cannot access personal protective equipment.

The accreditation organization only supports the use of private implements when PPE is in short supply. Homemade masks could also be used, but The Joint Commission said they are an extreme measure for only when standard PPE is unavailable.
