Hospital relocating orthopedic surgery center, building 2nd center — 5 insights

Albuquerque, N.M.-based Presbyterian Healthcare Services is advancing two surgery center projects through the pipeline, the Albuquerque Journal reports.

What you should know:

1. The health system is relocating one center, staffed by New Mexico Orthopaedics, to its Kaseman Hospital campus.

2. The new center will be larger and will continue to focus on orthopedics and podiatry.

3. The health system will redevelop the former center into a general surgery center with multiple specialties.

4. Health system COO Clay Holderman believes the new multispecialty center is among the first such centers in New Mexico.

5. Both centers are expected to open in early 2020. Administrators expect the centers will shift about 22,000 procedures from the inpatient space to the outpatient space.
