Former Tenet, HCA exec to guide COVID-19 testing, contact tracing in Dallas

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson hired Kelvin Baggett, MD, as the city's first Health and Healthcare Access Czar, according to local NBC affiliate NBC DFW.

Five things to know:

1. As Health and Healthcare Access Czar, Dr. Baggett will recommend ways to improve healthcare access, COVID-19 testing, contact tracing and essential services.

2. Dr. Baggett is a senior adviser at Pharos Capital Group, advising the firm's investment committee on target business segments and opportunities, as well as on due diligence matters.

3. He was previously senior vice president and chief medical officer of Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare, which he joined in 2009 from HCA.

4. At Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA, Dr. Baggett served as chief operating officer and vice president of clinical strategy for the HCA Clinical Services Group.

5. Less than 2 percent of Dallas County residents were tested for COVID-19 at the time Dr. Baggett's new role was announced May 12.
