ASC executive takes helm at Shelby Baptist Medical Center — 5 takeaways

Alabaster, Ala.-based Shelby Baptist Medical Center named Mike Rickman CEO, according to Shelby County Reporter.

Here are five takeaways:

1. Mr. Rickman is succeeding Bob Phillips who left Shelby Baptist to take the CEO position at Jasper, Ala.-based Walker Baptist Medical Center.

2. Prior to joining Shelby Baptist, Mr. Rickman was regional chief development officer for Tenet Eastern Region-Central Division in Birmingham, Ala.  

3. He has extensive healthcare and ASC experience. He served as Birmingham-based HealthSouth Corp.’s senior vice president of the ambulatory surgery division for more than 13 years.

4. Mr. Rickman was the co-founder and COO of Hoover, Ala.-based Practice Partners in Healthcare prior to joining Tenet. The company provides management expertise to ASCs.

5. He is an Ambulatory Surgery Center Association and American Association of Ambulatory Surgery Centers affiliate.
