1. Director of the Steele Children’s Research Center Fayez Ghishan, MD, and Steele Center Researcher Hua Xu, PhD, will lead the study.
2. Dr. Ghishan has actively researched NHE8 for several years. He and his colleagues notably created a NHE8 clone using intestines.
3. The study will examine how NHE8 affects goblet cell function, changes in gut microbiome and hyperproliferation of epithelial cells in the development of colon cancer.
4. Dr. Xu believes the study could give researchers insight into how colonic tumors develop. In turn, it could help with early detection and in the creation of better treatment options.
