Pentax Medical releases updated instructions for duodenoscope reprocessing: 3 notes

Pentax Medical updated reprocessing instructions for its ED-3490TK video duodenoscope, according to a Gastroenterology & Endoscopy News report.

Here are three notes:

1. The updated instructions for the duodenoscope call for a more meticulous protocol for pre-cleaning, manual cleaning and a high level of disinfection.

2. The FDA has reviewed the update and recommended that staff using the device be trained as soon as possible.

3. Last year, contaminated scopes were the cause of superbug outbreaks at numerous medical centers, including the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles.
