GI physician leader to know: Dr. Michael Kimmey of CHI Franciscan Health

Michael Kimmey, MD, is a gastroenterologist practicing at Tacoma, Wash.-based CHI Franciscan Health. He has been active in a number of gastroenterology-based professional societies. He is a past president of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He was a faculty member at the University of Washington for two decades, most recently serving as professor of medicine and director of the Digestive Disease Center at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle.

Dr. Kimmey has a professional interest in anemia, Barrett’s esophagus, colon cancer, colposcopy, esophageal disorders, gastroesophageal reflux and inflammatory bowel diseases. His research work centers on endoscopic ultrasound, therapeutic endoscopy and the detection and treatment of early gastrointestinal cancer and pre-cancer. He authored more than 150 publications in medical journals and textbooks.

Dr. Kimmey earned his medical degree at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He completed his residency and GI fellowship at University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle.
