Dr. Shapiro focuses on colon cancer screenings and treatments for Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome and Barrett’s esophagus. In addition to colonoscopy and upper GI endoscopy, he has expertise in Barrett’s esophagus ablation and endoscopic ultrasound. He also participates in multidisciplinary treatment of eosinophilic esophagitis and celiac disease at The SEED Center. His research work has been published in journals such as Clinics in Liver Disease.
Dr. Shapiro earned his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. He completed his residency at Emory University in Atlanta, and his fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at Georgetown University in Washington, DC.
