Dr. Mayer’s clinical interests include visceral pain, irritable bowel syndrome, cyclical vomiting syndrome and functional gastrointestinal disorders. His research interests center on IBS, functional dyspepsia, gastroparesis, cyclical vomiting syndrome and brain gut disorders. He the principal investigator on two NIH center grants and has two active R01 grants. He has served on the editorial boards of professional journals, including Gastroenterology, Gut, Digestion and American Journal of Physiology.
Dr. Mayer earned his medical degree at Ludwig-Maximilians Universitat Muenchen in Germany. He completed his residency in Germany and at Vancouver General Hospital in Canada. He completed his fellowship at VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System.
