GI physician leader to know: Dr. Craig Cender of Asheville Gastroenterology Associates

Craig Cender, MD, joined Asheville (N.C.) Gastroenterology Associates in 2004. He is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Buncombe County Medical Society and North Carolina Medical Society.

Dr. Cender’s clinical interests include therapeutic biliary and pancreatic endoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound, endoscopic resection of complex intestinal polyps, endoscopic placement of enteral stents, infrared coagulation therapy for hemorrhoidal disease and inflammatory bowel diseases. His hospital affiliations include Asheville-based Mission Health and McDowell Hospital in Marion, N.C.

Dr. Cender earned his medical degree at the University of Florida in Gainesville. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in Lexington. His fellowship training includes a combined program of pediatric and adult gastroenterology as well as advanced therapeutic endoscopy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
