Gastroenterologist to know: Dr. Giovanni Traverso of Brigham and Women’s Hospital

Carlo Giovanni Traverso, MB, PhD, is a gastroenterologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.

Dr. Traverso earned his medical degree from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom and completed his residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He also completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at Harvard Medical School in Boston.

Dr. Traverso’s previous work focused on the development of novel molecular tests for the early detection of colon cancer. His research has been published in the New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancelet, Nature Biotechnology and Cancer Research. He is the recipient of the grand prize of the Collegiate Inventors Competition, a research fellowship from Trinity College in Hartford, Conn., and was named one of the most promising innovators under 35 by the MIT Tech Review’s TR 35.

Dr. Traverso’s current work is focused on the development of novel technologies for drug delivery through the gastrointestinal tract.
