New research has found that with a budget of just $1 million, an annual fecal immunochemical test screening program could potentially screen eight times as many people and prevent twice as many CRC cases as a colonoscopy screening program, according to a Center for Advancing Health report.
Though colonoscopy detects more polyps and adenomas than FIT, the question of budget becomes an issue. With a contained budget, an FIT screening program allows more low-income and uninsured patients to be screened, thus expanding the scope of the program and potential to save lives.
