AGA responds to Trump’s budget proposal, promises to advocate

President Donald Trump released his proposed 2018 budget on March 16, 2017, drastically cutting government funding to health services programs.

Under President Trump’s proposal HHS’ discretionary spending would decrease 23 percent, from $84.6 billion to $65.1 billion.

The proposal would cut the National Institutes of Health’s budget $5.8 billion to a total of $25.9 billion.

President Trump also doubled prescription drug user fee act fees to more than $2 billion.

The American Gastroenterological Association said in a release it would champion its efforts in Congress, “to ensure that the concerns of GIs are being heard.” The organization will continue working to ensure the “future of GI practice and research remains viable.”
