Dr. Muir, of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, will use the award to support her research on esophageal fibrosis in eosinophilic esophagitis.
“Esophageal fibrosis is the most serious complication of EoE, leading to dysphagia, food bolus impaction and esophageal stricture. Currently, the only means of monitoring disease activity is by eosinophil count in esophageal biopsies, and there is currently no standardized method of monitoring for the development of esophageal fibrosis in the pediatric EoE population,” Dr. Muir said in the AGA report.
