PayScale surveyed 203 individuals to determine its salary data. PayScale used January 2017 data for these insights. Seventy-six percent of respondents were men and 24 percent were female. A majority of respondents had between one and 19 years of experience.

Here are six facts to note:

1. Of the surveyed base, salaries ranged from $173,156 to $498,968.

2. Gastroenterologists bonus pay ranged from $8,750 to $101,130.

3. Gastroenterologists received $119,831 on average through profit sharing.

4. Combined total pay ranged from $171,902 to $508,878.

5. On average,

  • Entry level pay started at $291,000,
  • Mid-career gastroenterologists made $309,000,
  • Experienced gastroenterologists made $314,000
  • Late career gastroenterologists made $299,000.

6. The national average for gastroenterology is $300,000.
