Five report recommendations the AGA considers to be ‘wins’:
1. ABMS Boards should engage with diplomates regularly, instead of every two, five or 10 years.
2. The term “maintenance of certification” should be abandoned.
3. Continuing certification must focus on available information that allows diplomates to deliver better clinical care. “Traditional, infrequent high-stakes assessments” are inappropriate for continuing certification.
4. The ABMS Board should provide an alternative to “burdensome highly secure, point-in-time examinations of knowledge.”
5. The ABMS and its board should encourage independent research on the value of continuing certification.
