Cardiovascular board pass rate down 6%

The percentage of prospective cardiologists passing the board certification exam on their first try is down 6 percentage points since 2019, according to data from the American Board of Internal Medicine.

In 2019, 92% of prospective cardiovascular disease specialists passed on the first try. That number went down to 91% in 2020, and has hit 86% for 2021, 2022 and 2023. 

The majority of specialties either saw a pass rate rise from 2019 to 2023, or a decline of 1 to 2 percentage points, according to the report.
