Many of the best states for physicians to practice are in the Western and Southern parts of the U.S., according to the 2020 best and worst states for physicians list by personal finance website WalletHub.

The rankings are based on a variety of metrics, including average wages, number of hospitals and competition for positions.

The top 10 states are:

1. Montana
2. Wisconsin
3. Idaho
4. North Dakota
5. Minnesota
6. Kansas
7. Iowa
8. Tennessee
9. Mississippi
10. Nebraska
