4 physician myths debunked by a 1st-year resident

A first-year resident at the Tucson-based University of Arizona, Amanda, takes a stab at dispelling four common myths about physicians in Physician's Money Digest.

Here are four myths about physicians, according to Amanda.

1. Physicians may exude confidence, but it's hard being surrounded by extremely smart, hard-working colleagues everyday. The impostor phenomenon is alive and well among physicians, who feel their own insecurities and vulnerabilities, just like everybody else.

2. Physicians are not necessarily the healthiest people out there, as their schedules are as rigorous as they get. It's difficult to achieve the work-life balance they espouse and find time to sleep.

3. A rumor that physicians are selfish is likely unfounded, as these professionals commit their lives to saving strangers' lives.

4. Although many physicians make an enviable salary, many are also burdened by debt.
