Who’s snapping up physicians? 10 deals to know

Here are 10 physician group deals Becker’s has reported on in 2025: 

1. Optum has acquired a 200-provider medical group in Kingsport, Tenn. Holston Medical Group has more than 70 locations in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. The acquisition will go through Cardinal Health’s multi-specialty MSO organization, The Specialty Alliance. When the deal closes in late 2025, Cardinal Health will own about 75% of The Specialty Alliance.

2. Dublin, Ohio-based Cardinal Health, the majority stakeholder of GI Alliance, announced plans to acquire Solaris Health, a urology management services organization, for $1.9 billion in cash.

3. Winter Haven, Fla.-based Bond Clinic, a 90-provider physician group, has been acquired by AdventHealth. Altamonte Springs, Fla.-based AdventHealth purchased the group’s 28-specialty assets and care sites located throughout Polk County.

4. Grass Valley, Calif.-based Dignity Health Medical Group—Sierra Nevada, a service of Dignity Health Medical Foundation, has acquired Sierra Nevada Gastroenterology, also based in Grass Valley. The clinic will close June 9 and reopen June 16, rebranded as Dignity Health Medical Group—Sierra Nevada.

5. Charlotte, N.C.-based OrthoCarolina, one of the nation’s largest independently owned orthopedic practices, sold its physical therapy business. The deal resulted in PT Solutions Physical Therapy partnering with Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health to acquire OrthoCarolina’s physical therapy practice for an undisclosed amount.

6. New York City-based NYU Langone Health and NYU Langone Orthopedics announced the acquisition of Rothman Orthopaedics of Greater New York, and in New York City, which expanded the system’s orthopedic care in the city.

7. Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanderbilt Health acquired Tennova Healthcare-Clarksville’s cardiology practice from Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health System. 

8. Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood, Fla., added to its heart institute by acquiring a pediatric cardiology practice. In total, 14 pediatric cardiac physicians were added to the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in the transaction.

9. In January, Hauppauge, N.Y.-based Sight Growth Partners expanded its reach into Connecticut and New York by acquiring Doctor & Associates of Westport, Conn., and Samburksy Eye & Esthetics in Johnson City, N.Y.

10. IRA Capital, a private equity firm, acquired Houston Physicians’ Hospital in Webster, Texas. The 148,950-square-foot facility is a multi-specialty surgical hospital and outpatient campus leased through a joint venture between the physicians, Memorial Hermann Health System and United Surgical Partners International.
