Where competition will thrive or flatline — 10 state rankings

By 2026, Oklahoma is expected to have the lowest amount of competition compared to other states, according to a new WalletHub ranking.

WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across two dimensions: "opportunity and competition” and "medical environment." The rankings were based on analysis of 18 metrics, which were each graded on a 100-point scale.

Five states with the lowest projected competition:

1. Oklahoma
2. Mississippi
3. Nevada
4. Minnesota
5. Alaska

Five states with the highest projected competition (all tied for 46th place):

46. New York
46. Massachusetts
46. Vermont
46. Rhode Island
46. Washington, D.C.
