Here are three things to know:
1. Medical students Paras Vora and Riley Bylund began developing the new clinic space in 2017 when the UK department of ophthalmology moved to Shriners Hospital for Children Medical Center-Lexington and the opportunity to acquire donated supplies and equipment from the old space arose.
2. A portion of the Salvation Army Clinic space was modified to create a hybrid exam room which could function as a traditional exam room as well as a specialized eye examination space.
3. The founders needed to secure minimal funding because of the donated equipment. The clinic will provide students an opportunity to gain experience practicing ophthalmology examination techniques and will provide care to underserved populations.
